The Rhino was created from a real photograph of Ada, one of the two rhinoceroses living at Bratislava Zoo.
The story behind the artwork
This artwork was created from a photograph of Ada, a rhinoceros from Bratislava Zoo. Ada is one of the two rhinos currently living there.
It is also one of the largest artworks I have created so far, made from nearly 4,000 individual wooden blocks. Completing the entire piece took me one full month.
I began with a palette of around 15 colours, but as the work progressed, I kept mixing new shades to get as close as possible to the tones in the original photograph. In the end, even I can no longer estimate how many different colours and variations are actually hidden within the piece.
Because of its scale, the number of pixels and the amount of colour mixing involved, this artwork became one of the most demanding pieces I have ever created.
