The story behind the artwork
The I Kept the Sunset series was created from three photographs of sunsets I took in Greece, where I lived for almost four years.
They capture places where I spent a lot of time on my own — places I still associate with one of the most beautiful periods of my life.
Each artwork is titled with the geographic coordinates of the exact location where the original photograph was taken.
Sunsets have always felt magical to me — moments of silence, freedom, and returning to myself.
After creating two series based on moments from the island of Kea, where the artworks are currently exhibited, I decided to preserve more of these memories in wood.
A photograph on a phone contains millions of pixels. In these works, I reduce them to just a few hundred wooden pieces — imperfect, handcrafted pixels, each with its own texture, height, and shade.
They are not meant to be exact reproductions of the photographs. They are my attempt to return to a moment that happened only once, but stayed with me much longer.
