The Kea series was created from photographs I took on the Greek island of Kea. It was the first project in which I began exploring the idea of transforming my own photographs into wooden images made from only a limited number of pixels.

It originally started as a trilogy. A few months earlier, I had moved back home after living in Greece, and the first three pieces were created almost entirely out of nostalgia — as a way of returning, through images, to places and moments I missed.

Later, a close friend offered me the opportunity to exhibit the works in her shop on Kea. Three pieces suddenly felt too few, so I returned to my photographs and created three more. This became the first collection, Kea I.

The series received such a warm response that, two months later, I opened my photo archive once again, selected another six photographs, and created its continuation — Kea II.

What makes these collections especially personal is that every artwork carries something beyond the image itself.

Each piece is titled with the GPS coordinates of the exact place where the original photograph was taken. Attached to the back of every artwork is a sealed envelope containing the original photograph together with its coordinates and a signed certificate of authenticity.

I also placed something additional inside each envelope.

For Kea I, it is a personal message written by me for the future collector of that particular piece.

For Kea II, it is a small invitation to do something that might make the world a little better.

The exact messages will always remain between me and the collectors — even though, in most cases, we have never met.
