Everything you need to know
I'm Maria, nice to meet you!
My artistic journey began in September 2024 — even though art had always lived quietly somewhere inside me. As a child, I spent hours in my father’s workshop, surrounded by the scent of wood and the calm rhythm of making. I didn’t know those moments were planting the first seeds of something that would one day call me back.
After years in a different world — structured, rational, far from creativity — I wanted something real. Something with emotion, imperfection, and touch. Returning to my father’s workshop felt like coming home. We started creating together again, this time as equals — two generations shaping small pieces of wood into stories that will outlive us both.
Each mosaic is built by hand, piece by piece, from hundreds of wooden “pixels.” They’re not perfect — because life isn’t either. Every shape and shade holds a trace of emotion, movement, and time. My work is a dialogue between precision and chaos — between me and my father, between control and surrender, between the need to build and the courage to let go.
Wooden pixel art is a rare technique practiced by only a handful of artists worldwide. I am likely the only woman pursuing it full-time — and the only one building named collections from my own original motifs.
Through Max&Pix, I’m learning to trust the process and let what’s inside speak without filters. These works aren’t only about what you see — they’re also about what you feel when you look closely. They’re about returning — to roots, to honesty, to creation that carries the warmth of human hands.
Collector's Guide
Exclusivity
Technique
Each mosaic is composed of tiny wooden blocks, individually cut, sanded, painted, arranged, and glued by hand. The block size is consistent within each artwork but may vary between pieces — edge lengths typically range from 1.7 cm to 1.9 cm, depending on the mosaic.
We primarily use spruce wood for its light weight, easy handling, and excellent absorbency on cross-sections — essential for achieving depth and richness of color. For coloring, we use high-quality acrylic paints or wood stains, chosen according to the intended texture and visual effect.
This wooden pixel art technique is rare, practiced by very few artists worldwide because it’s intensely labor-demanding at every stage — from cutting and sanding to painting, arranging, and finishing — and it requires exceptional patience. Assembly isn’t mechanical; it relies on the artist’s eye and sensitivity to color and form. From available public sources, the number of artists working in this exact method can be counted on one hand.
Each block is treated with care — no two are ever exactly alike — resulting in a final artwork that reflects precision, emotion, and a unique organic rhythm. Every artwork comes with its own frame, designed to match the piece. If desired, the frame can be customized — in color, material, or structure — to better suit the collector’s space.
